The Area Agency on Aging maintains a library containing books and other media on health care and issues on aging which are available for loan.

Available Classes

Diabetes Self-Management Program (DMSP)

The Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP) workshops are free and open to individuals living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. The DSMP program was developed by Stanford University and consists of six workshop sessions of 2.5 hours each. Each workshop focuses on problem-solving, decision-making, and other self-management skills which help participants face the challenges of living with diabetes.

Participants who take the workshops learn about:

  • Monitoring blood sugar
  • Preventing low blood sugar
  • Nutrition and healthy eating plan
  • Preventing and delaying complications
  • Dealing with depression and stress
  • Foot care


Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP)

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) workshops are free and open to individual living with different chronic health conditions. The CDSMP program was developed by Stanford University and consists of six workshop sessions of 2.5 hours each. 

Subjects covered include:

  • Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
  • Appropriate use of medications
  • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
  • Nutrition
  • Decision making
  • How to evaluate new treatments

Fit and Fall Proof is an exercise-based fall prevention program.  Attendance at classes two to three times per week enables older adults to:

  • Maintain an independent, freely functioning life-style
  • Achieve gains in flexibility, enabling older adults to reach and to bend
  • Improve muscular strength
  • Increase balance and posture
  • Improve mobility, endurance, and walking gait
