The Area Agency on Aging Remembers Gordon Muma

Gordon Muma served on the Area Agency Advisory Council for two years.  He passed away October 26, 2012.

Gordon D. Muma, 71, of Rigby, passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at his home.

He was born Jan. 30, 1941, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Ross Muma and Dorothy Patereau Muma. He was raised and attended schools in Ransburg, Calif.

Following his graduation from Ransbury High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1959 to 1966, and received his training on submarines, specializing in nuclear energy. He spent nine months on the USS Enterprise, serving his country.

On June 30, 1962, he married Lana Radford in Idaho Falls; to this marriage they added three daughters and two sons.

Gordon worked at Argonne National Engineering Laboratory as a reactor operator, engineer and procedure writer.

Gordon enjoyed serving in the community and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He also volunteered for the Ririe Senior Citizens Center, the Idaho Food Bank and Eastern Idaho Community Action Program. He was very precise and orderly and loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Lana Muma, of Rigby; daughters, Lisa D. (Steve) Bunnell of Rexburg, and Melanie Kim Muma of Sunset, Utah; son, Kevin R. (Renee) Muma of Puyallup, Wash.; sisters, Beverly Williamson and Carol (Dale) Smith, both of Prineville Ore., Phyllis Martin of Connecticut, and Mary Muma of Astoria, Ore.; brothers, Alan Muma and Quinton Muma, both of Astoria, Ore., Bruce Muma of San Francisco, Calif., Warren Muma of Prineville, Ore., and Howard Muma of Sweethome, Ore.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Blain Radford; daughter, Marsha Marie Muma; and son, Blain D. Muma.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct.

30, at The Ririe Stake Center, 14061 N. 130 East in Ririe. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Ririe Shelton Cemetery.
